LADD GENEALOGY

As first step in tracing the Ladd Genealogy, it seemed like a good idea to survey the Union Cemetery in Laconia New Hampshire to find out what Ladds were buried there. Accordingly, Francis E. Ladd and Leta Ladd made such a survey on July 16 and 17, 1992. All of the tombstones were examined and a list compiled of all the Ladds that were found.

The search started at the Academy Street end of the cemetery (called North) and progressed toward the Garfield end (called South).

A map of the cemetery was obtained from Mr. Richard W. (Bill) Bastraw, Superintendent of Union Cemetery Association. This map was in very poor condition, it was barely readable. I subsequently made a new map. This new map shows all of the plots and identifies them by a number. Each plot is, in fact, identified by a metal number.

There does not appear to be logical numbering system that would allow you to physically locate a plot. However it should not be too difficult to find a given plot on the map as the list of Ladds is compiled in the order which they were found, thus a plot in the early part of the list would be found near the Academy Street end of the cemetery.
